What makes you want to buy?

By Skylers Dad from Some days it's not worth chewing through the leather straps.

So what is it about a commercial that you all find appealing? What makes you say to yourself, "I need to buy that product", or "I think I need to get behind that cause"?

I am a YouTube/video finding junkie, and watch a ton of stuff that friends send to me and that I find. Let me tell you what works on me. Let's look at two different pieces put together for Global Warming by European companies:

Really? I mean just WTF really?!?

Can I possibly get any more depressed? I submit not! I am all for saving the planet and doing things better, but do I think for a moment that my furry friends are going to off themselves because I am burning too much fossil fuel?

Let's try again, this time with a bit less heavy handed and a song that I used to love:

Sweetness. Much better, makes me want to try a bit harder, and pass it along to others.

So my question to you all is, what makes you like a commercial?

Feel free to break into small discussion groups, post stickies on the wall with key points, we will reconvene later...

Preachy commercials and/or Billy Mays makes me turn the channel immediately.

The two main fastors that make me like a commercial are humour and creativity. Any agency can deliver a message, but the way they do it is what separates art from noise.

Mjenks: I couldn't agree more.

Dr Zibbs: Thanks, thanks.

Kat: I am always looking for humor in a commercial, second would be something memorable.

Lulu: That is pure gold.

I adore the second commercial.

I'm a pretty tight-fisted consumer so for me a commercial that conveys value and quality will get me to buy. I respond best to humor.

I like it when they make their point with humor. And the more creative, the more memorable.

A great ad must evoke some sort of emotion to be memorable. The second commercial is not only clever, but thought provoking and creative. I will remember that one.
And if I remember it, chances are I will give it's intended advertiser the chance at my consumer loyalty.

Monkeys and polar bears heaving themselves off cliffs? Ye cats! Egad, man, how depressing!

Me? I'm just gonna drink until the Bush Adminstration quits.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in CGI animals. It's about time someone addressed this growing epidemic.
